During my search for a place to live, I've come across some pretty inexpensively-priced apartments off Beltway 8 north of I-10, near Spring Woods HS (ZIP code 77043.) Was wondering if anyone has any insights on that neighborhood and why it's so inexpensive. We don't have kids yet and are looking for a temporary place to rent (probably a year or so) so schools aren't a big deal.

The apartments are inexpensive probably due to a number of factors. There are numerous complexes and town homes to choose from in that area specifically off of Gessner and Longpoint. Too many according to my friends that live in 77043 therefore it drives the price down. I would suggest driving around that area on the weekends because some are quite "iffy".

If you want a nicer place, check out The Lodge at Spring Shadows at Clay and Gessner. I lived there for awhile years ago and it was pretty nice, and they've since added another section.

I agree with what texsn95 said above. The Lodge is a nice complex plus the YMCA is just around the corner. I ride my bike past it whenever I am visiting my friends in 77043. I was thinking more about the apartment complexes closer to I-10.
