i sat on a jury for a traffic fine before. i was surprisingly the one who wanted to go lenient. everyone, other than those breaking traffic law, HATE people driving on the HOV lanes alone. going to court is just going to make you miss a day of work and possibly a couple of other days to prepare and meet with a lawyer. it wont help. pay the fine and stop it

Like some one else said here, I am so glad you got caught.

Not happy about the $450. But, satisfied that they actually enforce it and (heavily) fine the morons who "fly" alone in the HOV in peak rush hours while thousands of other drivers sit in the regular lanes doing 2 mph.

That's karma, IMO. Thanks for sharing it with others that the fine is so steep.

And how stupid you gotta be to pay a whooping 4.5 for this short stretch of highway? Taxes here, taxes there, taxes everywhere.. and they still want money from me to use the highway?

Anyway, good luck. definitely go to court and fight it.
Smart enough to know how to spell whopping. Smart enough not to just be an a#% in general. And smart enough and fortunate enough, to know that if I can afford the 4.50 that I can get an extra hour of my life back. Yeah the city or state collects revenue. I'm good with that. I'm getting my time back. But yeah on your book it's stupid. I'm good with that too.

Just look at it as paying for all those times you didn't, just all in one go.

When i first moved to Houston, i got on the HOV lane by mistake on my way to work. But then I started doing it because i liked how fast it went. Then one day, BOOM, metro police was waiting for me when i got off. Luckily for me, I still had my Colorado license plates so they spared me on the ticket. He told me that the tickets are around $500. I never did it again after that.

I have seen many people doing the same thing, drive alone and use HOV lane on I-10. It is not fair......
I'd suggest hitting yourself upside the head for being arrogant, and thinking that you are in a bigger hurry than anyone else on the road. I hate sitting in traffic on my commute just as much as you do, but I choose not to break the law, I suck it up and deal with it. My advice is for you to do the same.

This is an interesting one. While this is a ticketable offense, I think $450 is too severe for something that is just selfish and not putting other driver's safety at risk, such as driving erratically, excessive speeding, or running a red light.

Can the driver do defensive driving or deferred adjudication?? I think $450 plus costing the driver thousands in higher insurance premiums for years is too severe.

I wish we could catch all the thugs terrorizing the metro with all the robberies on the news. They should be kept off the streets.

Agree the fine is very high but if it is low, then everyone would do it and take their chances on the risk of getting caught.
