Hello everyone. My Fiance and I live in Oregon and will be graduating from school in the spring of 2015. I work as a cosmetologist and have a business degree and my fiance works in automotive management. We are looking for a safe place to move where we can start a family and still have access to things we are interested in. We want an area where we have access to dining, shopping, nightlife (maybe 1-2 times a month, nothing too crazy but not a super boring town), possibly major league sports or close access to, concerts, outdoor activities such as hiking, walking, boating, swimming, etc. We would like to be close to the water but not right on the water.

So far, we have found that people really recommend and like the Clear Lake area and the League City area. Would this be a good fit for us or is this for more of the late 30's who already have a family in school? Because we are wanting to start a family, we would like to settle in a place with good schools for ages 3-10.

What would be a good area for us to buy a house in, start a family and kick off our careers? I am in my mid-late 20's and my fiance is in his late 20's.

Thank you in advance!

We live in a pretty small city in Oregon where the weather is great about 30% of the year... The rest of the year is very cold and wintry conditions. Also the housing market where we live is very expensive as well as the hobbies of skiing/snowboarding are expensive. We would like to move some where warm, with a better economy, more affordable housing and a larger city/area complete with the activities I listed...

Houston can give you all of that, but find a job here first and then move. Good luck!

League City, Friendswood, and Clear Lake sound good for you. There are nice homes, near water, and I would guess a younger crowd, probably depends on the specific neighborhood. Friendswood is a little farther from the water and probably less expensive. Keep in mind the water won't be great though.

If husband runs a CarSpa and the wife works at TGF, both can live fairly comfortably in many parts of Houston. However the diversity factor from Oregon will be a culture shock and I've also heard living near that murky water is very expensive, as there are tens of thousands of professional/executive type people who are already there.

Pasadena sounds more in your price range and it is still close to the water.

Find your jobs first and then make this decision, there's way to "many" good places to live all around Houston. Like you have read in many post's its the commute (or time wasted commuting is the worst part of Houston) that will kill it or make it great. If you can keep your commute under 30 minutes then your quaility of life will have a great "+" .... Good luck to you!!

You need to have a job here before you move. The last thing you need to do is move here and then look for a job, there are way too many people already doing this. Not every field or industry is hiring.
