My wife and I have been looking at houses in Cypress, can anyone provide info on that area, livings style, communities especially Villages of Cypress Lakes or The Reserve at Cypress Lakes, etc. or similar communities.

Again we have an empty nest so schools are not a consideration, just a safe community with southern hospitality.

Thanks,

Welcome! Plenty of choice here in Cypress depending on exactly what you're looking for.
What's your approximate budget and what are your priorities? There's a real mix of older more established areas and newer MPC's. There's a lot of development going on in this area (town centers due at Towne Lake and Bridgeland, city center style development at 1960@hwy 6) and a lot of new homes being built at the moment that seem to be selling very quickly.

Overall, we've found people here very friendly and hospitable, in fact our neighbors are one of the best things about where we live (though I guess that's just luck).

Cypress is a very nice area to live, many nice subdivisions and places to shop, there is only one thing that needs to be considered as far as commute, trafficc on Hwy 290 is difficult, if needed to go to work.

Where are you coming from and what is your budget? We are empty nesters as well looking for a change. I think you may be better looking in an area where it is pretty much all new build. This way you can establish friendships with neighbors who are new as well from the get go. Like Cbink said, we had neighbors who were very friendly but we noticed once the kids are gone people relocate to wherever and you no longer have that school activity involvement connection. On the flip side of that I would like to know established areas with friendly neighbors for the empty nest set.

I have relatives in a nice, older area of Cypress where people tend to stay long term. The lots are large (1/2 to 1 acre), the properties well kept, and a relaxed atmosphere. The neighborhood is off of Huffmeister and Cypress Fields. You can browse the area on Google Streetview to get a feel for the area.

Cypress is a very nice suburb. Highway 290 is a problem if you plan to commute into Houston. An alternative now is to drive somewhat out of the way and take the new tollway (Grand Parkway) down to I-10, and go into Houston that way. That's what I would do to avoid 290. I will not drive on 290, no matter what. Once TXDOT finishes the rebuild of 290, it should be much better, though.
