Hello,

I am new to this forum but I have been reading a lot of information on here to figure out my living situation in Houston. I will be working for an Oil & Gas coming starting this June and I would like to figure out a few things before I visit Houston in about two weeks. After doing some research, I am leaning towards living in Midtown because I prefer living around young people in their early 20s and I enjoy going to clubs/bars/etc...Please feel free to suggest any other locations I should look into.

1. My work is located approximately 15 miles west of midtown so please let me know how the commute would be? (I have no problem with about 30 minutes of commute)

2. Do you think it is possible to find an apartment in Midtown under $1000 and where a lot of college/new grad students/new professionals are living?

I would really appreciate it if I can get some advice here since I do not know anyone in Houston at the moment. Thank you!

Sounds like you will be working in the Energy Corridor. Try City Centre instead:

CITYCENTRE - Tenants

Much closer to work and has the young professional demographics you are looking for.

BTW, there are plenty of apartment complexes nearby that are less expensive - they just aren't in the City Centre.

Are you going to be a new college grad? Just wondering if you are attending the same NJ college (Rutgers-New Brunswick) my husband and I did (for grad school though). He is in oil and gas too. If you are, let us know...there are a bunch of alums in the area.

In any case, congrats on the new job and welcome!

You'd most likely need to up your budget to 1300 for Midtown. And yes, it should be possible to drive easily to your work from there since it will be a reverse commute.

15 miles is about Beltway 8? It is a 20min commute without traffic. There is light traffic on the way there, but going home will be worse.

lol.... no

I would really appreciate it if I can get some advice here since I do not know anyone in Houston at the moment. Thank you!

And, don't live in City Centre. It is boring and lame. Live in Midtown or Montrose and eat the commute. I know someone that lives in CityCentre and works on Eldridge. She is moving when her lease is up to Montrose.

Geology for both of us. There are a lot of Rutgers alums here though. More than you would think! Welcome!
