We are thinking of building a house in Whispering Oaks subdivision in 77406. Beside the expensive cost of the custom building, one big concern that we have is school. Does any one have good ideas about Lamar Consolidated School System in Richmond? We searched online and most of the reviews were long ago so we couldnt tell. Our kids are currently going to Harmony School of Science in Sugar Land, but we have not been very happy with the school system and planning to pull them out to put them in private schools. If Larmar School system is good, it might be worth spending a little money to build the house

I love the FM359 area, and know it well. The one issue I have with Whispering Oaks is that they let Meritage Homes in there. Now, Meritage did horribly in there and they are leaving as soon as they can. The problem is, they brought a production builder into an acreage community, now Meritage is slashing and burning just to get out of there. They have had those one story inventory homes on the market for a year. Now I see they let David Powers in. David Powers is re-emerging out of the shadows after almost going out of business a few years back. So the fact that whoever is developing that area is willing to bring in whoever it takes to sell land makes me nervous. Also, did you notice that many of the lots in there are owned by banks? Never a good sign. I prefer Grand River, Foster Creek, Foster Crossing, Woods Edge, Glenwood.

thank you for the information. We love the subdivision a lot because of the hilly setting. We will check out other subdivision for sure.

It's been a good 8-9 years ago, but I subbed and student-taught in LCISD. My information is not up to date, as three new elementary schools have been built in the area since then. The two schools that I was somewhat familiar with were Austin, on one side of Pecan Grove, and Frost, on the other side of Pecan Grove. As a former teacher, I can tell you that teacher turnover speaks volumes about a school's administration, and both schools have the same principals as when I was interested in the district. At the time, when I was looking to teach in the district, someone had told me that the teachers at Austin stayed until they retired. Last time I looked at Frost's website, I didn't recognize half of the names on their faculty. You can draw your own conclusions.

Maybe someone else can speak to the reputation of the newer schools in Long Meadow Farms and Bella Terra?
