If you mount a satellite dish, you would have foundation issues.

Just sayin...

I have had no trouble insuring my house. My house made it through Ike untouched. It is a house not a trailer home. Most of those little old houses are pier and beam in Heights and Montrose.

People in NYC consider 1,000 sq apartment a family unit as they have 2 bedrooms.

Actually both coasts the houses are usually under 2,000 sq. It is really a Texas thing where everybody get a mcmansion and anything under 3000 sqft is a starter home.

You learn to enjoy the smaller space and don't buy as much crap you probably don't need anyway.

We lived in a Heights p&b. I thought he was referring to one of those little homes you move onto a lot completely built. If he's wanting a bungalow tiny home, why not just buy something in Heights or Montrose? I hate when those get torn down.

Who really cares about Tiny vs McMansion vs. actual mansion? I mean really.

The tiny home people get their rocks off by having a small footprint, great...if they think they are superior, b/c they eat roots and grubs they grew in a bucket on their porch, more power to them. The Anti-Mcmansion people in the Heights/Montrose are generally just trying to defend their smaller house and supress property values so they are not taxed out of their own home.

[Mod cut: off topic]
And to the OP - building a tiny house on an intown lot, you better just build it to be movable....permits wont be a problem...but you are committing to an economic misimprovement - so you just need to know that you will get NOTHING, absolutely ZERO value out of your structure...ALL of the value will be the lot...so you just build what makes you happy knowing that you will take it with you, or that it will be destroyed when you move. If you are doing it for the "environment" or for your "footprint" its much better for both to just buy an existing home...less in the landfills, less to be built...but that may not fit your "lifestyle"

To heck with others, just do what makes you happy.

With house/land prices in the loop being as high as they are, I'm very interested in buying a Tiny House on a full/half lot within the loop.
You are going to have some locations ruled out, because they may have limitations on how small it can be.

I do understand the fascination with them. I go onto Pinterest for a fix, every once in awhile. Love looking at them and imagining living that compactly. Probably never will.

I wanted to rent it out for a few years and then sell, but my husband didn't want to have to deal with renters. I will always wonder how much we could have made on it.
Depending on when you sold it and the location. 25-250K on the table. My buddy leased his old house in West U for a few years and it got him an extra 200K. Not to mention a few years of rent money.
