I would appreciate it if I could recieve any ideas for a two day weekend trip to Houston
This is a working recon trip prior to mov g and the goal is to find interesting things to do and see in the Katy/ sugar land/ energy corridor/ galleria areas. Also any heads up on good restaurants ( good food generous helpings and not too pricey)! I travel with three big boys with big appetites!
All suggestions will be very gratefully received !!

Any idea yet on where you guys will be staying? If not, I'd recommend getting a hotel in the Galleria area and using that as your base, since you can get to Katy, EC, and Sugar Land from there easily.

The Galleria area will have plenty of hotels to choose from. The big draw there is of course the Galleria mall, which is our most upscale if that's something that interests you. If you end up spending a day at the mall, skip the food court and head to E-Tao, and make sure to ask for their Chinese menu in order to get the authentic stuff. If you prefer to eat outside the mall, then head to either Kenny & Ziggy's New York Deli (huuuuuge portions) or Argentina Cafe (try their empanadas).

While you're in the area, make sure to check out the Water Wall (you can walk there from the Macy's) or head to Uptown Park for even more shopping and maybe a snack at Crave Cupcakes.

In Sugar Land, best place to check out is the Sugar Land Town Center, which is basically that city's downtown. In Katy, head to La Centerra at Cinco Ranch for Katy's version of a town center.

As far the Energy Corridor, there's not really a central place you can go to get a feel for the area, but try driving down N Eldridge Parkway to get a general idea of the neighborhood or make a stop at Terry Hershey Park to take a look around (might be too hot for that right now though). A really good restaurant there is Le Mistral, but it's pretty pricey so you might want to try Aka Japanese or Mastu Sushi instead if you decide to eat in the area.

Not really anything interesting to see in Katy, it's a suburb so shopping and restraunts in strip malls.

Kelly's Country Cookin' for Breakfast, you won't need to eat till supper time. Kenny & Ziggy's for sure has huge portions - you might think it's expensive at first glance but you can share a sandwich - seriously they are giant.

The areas you mention don't necessarily have things to do and see other than shopping. You could head down to Brazos Bend State Park from Sugarland. Downtown you could go up Chase Tower for the highest view of the city, Sculpturworx to see the busts of the presidents heads and the beatles statues, houston museum of natural science.

Chuy's for TexMex --- lots of good food and relatively inexpensive. Make sure you ask for the creamy jalapeno dip! There is one on I-10 west.

Jonathan's the Rub for lunch (dinner is expensive). Absolutely huge portions. Huge burger and fries for $12 (and you can substitute the fries for other things ... the mac & cheese is to die for!). It is on I-10 around Bunker Hill.

Goode Company for great BBQ. It is also around the I-10 Bunker Hill area.

Paulie's for Italian. Order at the counter and huge portions. It is inside the loop. They make their pasta in house. You can't beat the spaghetti and meatballs! And, the salads are huge!

Torchy's Tacos if you are around LaCentera (they also have a Kirby/inside the loop location as well)

And, of course there are chain restaurants everywhere!

Also, try Pappa Geno's or Texadelphia for philly cheesesteaks

Qin Dyanasty for great lunch Chinese. Looks upscale but you get a huge amount of food for under $10.

Maybe leave the kids at home to be able to have a successful "recon" trip in Houston. Just a thought.

Don't come to Houston and get a Philly cheesesteak. Just don't. Enjoy the trip!

Geno's is great for cheap good lunch food for big appetite boys Though it is not typical of Houston .... but either is a NY Deli (Kenny & Ziggy's)

Lots of seafood places too with Louisiana flavors ... Pappadeaux, Rajun Cajun, Bayou Seafood.

Houston has everything to offer foodwise so you'll have lots of choices. Have a great trip and good luck!
