I've made a couple of posts recently on specific areas of town/school districts as my wife and I ponder moving. Here is another one. Meadows place stands out to me as a desirable area because of its extremely low housing prices, its excellent schooling and (for being a suburb) its decent proximity to downtown. I've done an advanced search and am familiar with what has been posted so far. Any further insights/extrapolations would be appreciated.

There is a reason why the housing prices are so low. Alief is in Meadows Place back yard. Take a drive around there.

While true Alief is a neighbor, Meadows Place has a very strong neighborhood identity among residents, has very good schools due in large part because of parent involvement and commitment to education for their kids. For that price bracket, Meadows Place is one of the very best places to raise school-age kids in Houston.

I have a friend that just bought there and they absolutely love it. Police presence is well-known in the area, and they feel very safe.

Bellaire is next door to Gulfton and it's doing well. This is how Houston is laid out.

^this is really an excellent point. Took the words out of my mouth. There are much more expensive areas of town that are adjacent to worse areas.

Meadows is a steal (for now). The infrastructure is a little older and there are some property maintenance issues here and there, but mostly a good area. Will be more expensive in the future is my guess.

Yeah, the police presence there is a little too well known for my liking.
They give out speeding tickets for going even a mile over the speed limit.
I suppose that makes the residents there feel safer.

Well, eventually you have the leave your home in Meadows Place. Unless, you don't work and grow your own food. The surrounding area is not desirable. But, like a always say, "Different strokes for different folks."

Houston isnt a city where people are looking to murder you. Never had any problems grocery shopping or driving through any areas of town. As a person living between Bellaire and Gulfton I've never felt unsafe or like I cant venture out of my neighborhood. That is a silly feeling to have

I guess I just prefer to live in an area where gangs are not so prevalent. Call me crazy.
