Hi everyone. My neighbors have a dog. It seems that this dog is rarely allowed in the house. I haven't lived here during the summer so I can't say if they were leaving him out then, but they do now. It's getting very cold in the city, yet I still see this dog sleeping in the grass with no shelter. I ve seen this dog sitting in a crazy rain with nowhere to hide. What can I do? I don't know this people, and I don't want any confrontation , but I am worried about this animal.

You can report them anonymously to the Houston SPCA.

Every dog I ever owned I left outside all the time. Even during the coldest months in winter. They had dog houses. And I lived in Canada. It doesn't even get cold in Houston. Dog will probably be fine with cold temps but not if he's wet. He probably needs at least some kind of shelter even if just a table over his head.

Please leave the dog ownership to people who actually care about them. To the OP, please report your neighbors. There is no excuse for mistreating animals.

So let's report them, the dog gets taken to a pound or animal shelter, maybe it'll get adopted but probably euthanized. Or it can sit in a backyard in the elements (and let's be honest in Houston it is not that extreme in the winter) and be fed and be alive.

Not everyone is going to have the same thoughts on pet ownership, and as long as the animal is not getting physical abused you need to consider the alternative of what happens if you report your neighbors. And yes I've worked in animal rescues and see how many come in thru the doors and how many concerned citizens report their neighbors so they can sleep better at night when all that happens to the dog is they get euthanized.

I also grew up in the North. Most people that had big (not lap) dogs kept them outside in a dog house. The dogs were fine and loved playing in the snow. The dogs here should be fine as long as they are fed regularly and given a place to get out of the rain and wind.

The poor pup needs a dog house and bedding at the very least. Leaving a dog outside without shelter is cruel and should be reported.

I applaud you for having the compassion to advocate for this animal. The world needs more people who will take a stand against abuse of any sort, that done to kids, adults, and yes animal cruelty. Make the call and at the least get their advice as to what you should do. Thank you for caring.
