We just sold our home in Katy and have begun a new construction build in Cross Creek Ranch, but it will not be ready until November-December depending on the weather....I am looking for a possible 6 month lease option in SW Katy. We have 3 small kids and our two older will be attending Randolph Elementary so we would like to be in the vicinity of there school since we will be responsible for dropping them off and picking them up every day and don't want to drive too far to do so.

We also have 2 dogs, both mature adult dogs (1 Boston Terrier, 1 Boxer), housebroken, not allowed upstairs, 5+ years old, etc... Just curious if anyone had anyway to sort through the HAR listings for short term (6 month leases) as opposed to calling every listing in this area. Budget wise, we are fine with up to or around $3,000/mo. Ideally I'd like to pay less since we only need a 3bd/2ba home. Our youngest is an infant and still sleeps in the master bedroom. Larger home is fine as well as long as it's on budget.

You might have to call, but an option that you could probably sort through is see which houses have been on the market for 45-60+ days, and then call them. They may be more apt to do a 6-month rental then continue to have a vacant home.

EDIT: If you have to move out of the rental during December that is typically the worst time to list a rental. So, you may have to pay a little more than listing price or work out a deal with landlords.

I think it's more likely that you can get a 6month lease on a 3bedroom apartment in Katy.

That's what friends and family members of ours have done.

Lakeside Villas at Cinco Ranch or Grand Fountain may be your best bet. Call to verify, but both list short term or 6 month leases as available.

Lakeside Villas is very close to Randolph Elementary, less than 3 miles.

Not sure the family could squeeze into a 1300 sq/ft apartment with no yard. 3 kids and 2 dogs in an apartment doesn't sound like a good time. That would be an absolute last resort.

Check the rentals on HAR.com, but most will want a year's rental.
