I'm an Aussie ex-pat, moving to Houston from Seattle (where we have a great Aussie pie shop), hoping for Aussie pies, sausage rolls, etc.

Not sure of any in Houston. Central Market used to carry Aussie pies but not sure if they still do.

Here is one in Austin, TX

Sorry. You might be able to find the odd item here and there at a place like Central Market, but I do not think you will find any type of restaurant or store catering specifically to expat Australians.

If there is such a thing as Australian food, I have not found it. Modern Australian restaurants have quite a global bend with Asian flavors being represented most heavily. Comfort food seem to be slightly mutated British classics, such as pies. Pizza joints are everywhere. Sydney in general is a global melting pot unlike any other place I have seen.

I think I’ve seen Violet Crumbles at Cost Plus World Market. They carry some of Darrell Lea Licorice also.

I wanted to suggest Outback but I don't really think it is an Aussie restaurant but more of a theme then a true Aussie restaurant. Do they have meat pies on the menu? I don't know but Aussies love their meat pies. That link I posted for the place in Austin...looks yummy!

While there may not be an "Australian" restaurant or grocery store, Houston does have a sizable British expat community so you might have some luck in finding what you need at a few places.

Haven't been here in many years but you could try The Black Lab - they have some items you might find familiar or similar (page 3 on the menu has the pies, etc): The Black Labrador | About Us

There is nothing at all Australian about Outback. I would be insulted if I were Australian and someone suggested Outback.

Lol, suggesting Outback to an Austrailian for Austrailian food is a bit like suggesting Chilis to a Mexican for Mexican food.
