Husband's company has transferred him to Sour Lake, TX. I am less than excited about this move but need to prepare for it. I've been researching schools and it looks like Port Neches, Lumberton, Vidor, and Little Cypress (Mauriceville) are good schools. Is this correct? If not, what are some good schools in the area? Schools are #1 but I would also like to live where there are community events and spring/summer softball leagues, etc. We'll be looking for land to build on or a house with land. We have hunting dogs and performance horses. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am from Orange. Port Neches and Little Cypress (LCM) are good choices. You will have more access to events in Port Neches, but LCM will still have a boat load of softball/baseball, etc. for kids. There's definitely land in Mauriceville. Lumberton is ok, and you would be close to Beaumont. Vidor is kind of stagnant. Definitely not a first choice, but you can do worse in that area. Also consider Nederland, or Orangefield. Orangefield would be similar to Mauriceville if you are looking at rural areas, although the landscape is quite different for being in the same county. Lots of people are moving from Orange to Bridge City, but remember Bridge City was almost wiped out by hurricane Ike. The flood line from Ike stopped about 7 miles south of Mauriceville, too.

Hello there, I am from Indiana. I am wanting to move to Beaumont, TX. I have so much questions and I would be so grateful if I can be pointed in the right directions. How is the home health aide agencies? I currently work as a CNA and want to know if it is easy to find a job, also crime rates, and is it an affordable place? I also have daughters that are attending college so how is the commute to the nearest University? I am a mother of 5 kids. How is car insurance/heath ? I also just started a home health aide agency but it is in its beginning stages,do you think that it will do okay in Beaumont? I would really appreciate if I can get anymore information that you may want to share. Thank you

Lumberton and Vidor are the two towns you want to try to AVOID! Why? Because they're NOT diverse at all. Just caucasians. 2nd the towns are dirty and boring. If you want to build or buy with a lot of land, if I were you I'll look into the Fannett area.

Lumberton is like The Woodlands of the Golden Triangle.
If you like metal hurricane surge floodwalls that open & close on demand, you might like Fannett. Or maybe Hamshire.
