Was just on I10 west, off at frontage and tried to make a left onto Sam Houston pkwy going south. At the light there were a couple of guys wearing police uniform regulating. A few minutes later there was this huge overload truck with a white load on it passing by with escort, heading south. I had to follow it and finally at the intersection at Boheme dr. the truck got stuck. If you have used this road, it has a kink in the feeder road and both directions actually becomes side-by-side for a short distance. It took the crew a good 20 minutes to figure out what is going on, meanwhile only one direction was letting go and the queue on Sam Houston pkwy feeder road must had backed up pretty bad. I am the 2nd in line so I had an idea what was going on. The truck was trying to turn left a few times but realized it was not possible. It finally backed into pkwy feeder road of the opposite direction and heading south again. When I got a chance to turn left I just went east and got the hell out the feeder road. No idea what happened next. But clearly these people didn't plan this through. and why weren't they on the highway? Guess maybe because of the toll stations are too narrow. Instead they just decided to overuse their power and waste the time of everyone that is involved.

I'll try to upload the video I took.

I realized that nobody gives a fudge about the flow of traffic in Houston
when I was driving down I-45 on the Northside and see a huge truck that was taking two lanes driving on the 2 left lanes of the highway.

You think that's bad???
There's was a f..... police escorting it

That sounds awfully aggravating.

The BW8 feeder road in that area is a bit of a convoluted mess. Don't know why they didn't just continue it alongside the beltway across the bayou, avoiding all of these tight turns. Memorial Bend probably lobbied against it when the beltway was built.

I used to want to live in MB but the rush-hour traffic nearby has gotten nutzo. You're practically stuck in the neighborhood between 5 and 7 every day.

That's a permit load and the escort is required. That's how they get big loads to their destination, and there's no real alternative.

Do they have to drive on the left lane of the highway?

It takes a lot of patience to drive around Houston every day.

Short of a major economic collapse (a la Detroit), congestion and the types of situations described by the OP in Houston will NEVER go away, at least until self-driving cars are the norm (and maybe not even then). Still, people complain about it all the time...

If that's where the escort tells them to drive, yes. It may be related to overhead clearance and avoiding having other vehicles coming in from both sides. If they drive on the left, there's only the right side to worry about.

If you have lived in Houston for more than 6 months, you really should already be used to the traffic situation here. Either accept it, or move. OMG? Another Houstonian complaining about traffic situations and drivers? Original. In other news, the sky is blue.

I realized the video I took is basically just the truck stuck there for 2 minutes doing nothing.

Interestingly, this just came out also in Houston. Apparently if you do it for your own benefit without letting the cops know before hand, you could face prison for 6 months, even if it only lasted less than a minute.
