April 18, 2016 Historic Flooding in Waller and Harris County.

Went out today to Greenhouse Rd north of Longenbaum and south of West Rd near the Meg and Richard Weekly Community center and saw the high water. It's amazing and beautiful. Langham creek looks like a river and thankfully the detention ponds look like lakes. No flooding in Towne Lake South, Canyon Lakes West, and Yaupon Ranch because of the deep trenching of Langham and little Langham creek.

I took some great shots and vids that I will post. Saw an Armadillo that was really struggling and shaken up having escaped the high water. The underpass of the bridge that is a hike and bike trail is completely covered, the water is at the top of the bridge. Unfortunately there are 4 boys out there swimming in the lake, near the bridge and then further down along the spill way. Quite dangerous.

Anyone experiencing flooding in Cypress Creek Lakes, Bridgeland, Miramesa, Black Horse Ranch, etc.?

I know north of 290 in Cypress there is flooding along the Cypress Creek, however Langham Creek is at 500 year flood stage and areas SE of Longenbaum along the creek are flooded.

What is your status? Where are you?

I'm in Miramesa and the streets in front of my house are still flooded. Not sure why the water is taking a long time to recede since it has already stopped raining for a while now.

It flooded very heavy even further upstream. A lot of the creeks and bayous could potentially rise even higher tonight even though the storm has mostly passed at this point.

Serious question
Is Houston the worst built city in the country?
Why in the hell does the whole city flood everytime it rains?

The entire city doesn't flood every time it rains. It's usually just parts of SW Houston that always flood. Any area will most likely get flooded after receiving over 10 inches of rain in a couple of hours.

There is water on the road on Longenbaugh east of the park after the Senior Assisted living home to Barker Cypress. Be careful over there.

Parts of Houston got more rain today than a lot of cities across the country get in an entire year. Any city would flood if 10-16 inches of rain fall on it. When the Midwest or Northeast cities get hit by blizzards each year do you blame the cities for being poorly built?

I lived in St Louis where the Missouri and the Mississippi converge and I only remember one flood (in 1993)

That doesn't mean St Louis is built better than Houston. Natural disasters happen everywhere and it doesn't matter how the city is built. When catastrophic weather hits a city there will be widespread damage. To be honest this could have been so much worse if Houston truly was poorly built.
