People in Iowa are a lot nicer. They also don't drive like maniacs.

Food is a means to an end. Eat to live and keep it moving. Touting food is how America stays fat.

Fall in love with the people...a person not food. You'll eat it, be stuffed, 2-5 hours pee and crap it out and there it goes. Nothing lasting.

I agree with you about the driving like maniacs part. It is one of my few true peeves about the Houston Metro. I disagree with you though re people. There are definitely nice people in Iowa, but they don't hold a candle to many of the people in the Houston Metro. I wholeheartedly agree with the point of this thread...Houston's greatest asset is it's people .

Lol. Yes, Houstonians are awesome folk, but behind the wheel they get aggressive. Houston's freeways are like the Mad Max movies.

As for NOLA, the variety is no where near on Houston's level but the regional cuisine is the best in the US. It just has no peer there.
I totally agree. LA has some really good Korean bbq and so many other spots!

Just beware; in some towns people drive the opposite, like they are old and sleepy. People start slow from a light (wasting seconds that mean less people through the light), drive slow in each lane (including far left), and seem as though they have nowhere to go and nothing to do. That's what I have to put up these days, where I am. Sometimes it's nice, but most of the time it is annoying and frustrating. It's life in the slow lane, and like pre-retirement. There's also an accompanying slowing down of the nervous system and brain functioning to sub-optimal levels, so it's not good or healthy either.

Under these conditions, it's nice to get back to Houston and see energy, activity, fully-awake people, and signs of life. If you're in the big city too long, you'll lose that perspective. Check out other areas, and your eyes will be opened, and you'll gain some appreciation for the active city life. A little craziness is good too. What did Seal once sign? "We'll never survive unless we get a little crazy".
