Thanks! I'm sure his building is on Gessner, not sure of the number.

And actually they are building 3 more so I believe they will soon be up to 16 locations.

Would Memorial City area be an option? We realize we would need to move up to the 800,000's but can't help but wonder if this might be an option.

If you can tolerate being close to working class areas, Spring Branch north of I-10 will have larger lot subdivisions that might be in your price range, which may also lack an HOA. Assuming the workplace will be Memorial City, the commute would be excellent.

Exactly how much distance does there need to be between oneself, and these "working class" neighborhoods, for one to feel comfortable ?

Well, lots of folks in the Houston forum seem to need at least 2-3 miles. Seems crazy to me, but to each his/her own.

Fortunately, enough folks think otherwise that Houston has benefited from gentrification over the last 10-15 years.

I think you would like the Heights area, but definitely has sidewalks...try to find a corporate relo here and try it out. We are in a relo on Houston Avenue and love the area...1920s bungalow/craftsman types..it will send your budget up but property values will keep.
Best option is to get rental close to work (within 5 miles) and figure out how much of Houston traffic you want to mess with. We've lived in and visited many major cities, Houston traffic is challenging

We are working with relo and will be in corporate housing for 3 months or so while we find our home. I appreciate your input everyone.

That should work out to your benefit. Check out the different areas, communities, new builds and old builds and take the time to narrow day what you all want.

We took our time in finding the right location for us and ended up going for a new build in Jersey Village that we love. As stated before with the job location and budget you will be able to have more than a few options in finding your ideal home.

HAR.COM has a commute time option for searching so once you know which campus you will be at you can use HAR to find homes for sale within your desirable commute distance.

Congrats on the package and move to Houston, welcome!

Houston is as hot or hotter than DFW but much more humidity, and we don't really snow/ice in the winter.

HAR is a great resource for looking for homes

Medical Center area would have some homes with nice trees, decent yard, quiet neighborhood for around $550k but the homes will be older.. close to Rice University and the museums...
