If you were young and single and wanted to live West of downtown Houston and work in the energy corridor (and play tennis as your hobby) and be near lots of restaurants and places you can walk to.....where would you live?

City Centre if you can afford it. Westside Tennis club is not far from there.

Living in Houston requires a car. Even when you can walk to some places, you will often prefer to drive due to heat and humidity a lot of the year.

Some suggestions with some walking:

San Felipe Rd between Bering Dr and Voss Rd, preferably north of San Felipe. Plenty of individually-owned condos for rent (check har.com zip 77057) as well as apartments. On Bering near Woodway, there are 2 public tennis courts you can walk-to if you live on Bering/Augusta/Fountainview and weather is not too hot and humid. The closest restaurants walking distance would be at the shopping strips corner of San Felipe and Bering (Dish Society, Mode Pizza come to mind), San Felipe and Fountainview (too many to mention), Augusta at Woodway (Cyclone Anaya's, Brisket House, Starbucks), Bering at Woodway (Barnaby's grill). Woodway at Voss has Rosie Carrabas (family-owned Carrabas restaurant, not the chain restaurant).

If you can afford indoor tennis courts, the Galleria Tennis and Athletic Club (within the Galleria Mall premises) is close-by (driving 5-10 min max). The Westside Tennis Club is easy to get to driving west on San Felipe (which changes names twice - merging temporarily with Memorial, then becoming Briar Forest (check out a map). The Trotter Family YMCA is on Augusta Dr just north of San Felipe. It has outdoor tennis courts.

The Bering Dr area is 5 min west of Memorial Park via Woodway Drive and 20 minutes to downtown going east on Woodway (which mergers with Memorial Drive). Very nice drive to downtown. I believe there are public tennis courts at Memorial Park as well. To get to work, take Chimney Rock (if living on Bering/Augusta/fountainview) or Voss Rd north towards I-10 and go west to Energy Corridor (20 min max). Then (as an example) going home you can head to Westside Tennis Club to workout before heading home.
