Only Comcast and Consolidated Communications are offered in my area (Katy). Comcast is getting to be expensive ($60 for 25 Mbps). I am considering switching to Consolidated Communications ($25 for 20 Mbps). I am looking for recent experiences with them as everything I have read is prior to 2014 or so. Does anyone have Consolidated Communications? What have your experiences been with CC?

I recently left Consolidated. I had them for 9 years.

If you're a small household with not a lot of devices you may be fine. We are a family with multiple cell phones and computers and Consolidated couldn't keep up. It rarely met its promised speeds.

We moved to Comcast and bundled TV phone and cable. It's a night and day difference for us. And after the promo will still be paying about what we were for Consolidated phone and internet and dish tv. I should have switched years ago.

Check if your neighborhood has fiber to the house. Most of the new Katy neighborhoods do. I have Consolidated, my only choice, just west of Katy in Willow Creek Farms, but it is fiber. We have had their 100Mbs service for two years at an intro price of $60/mo and it has been rock solid. You will, as with most providers need to ditch their router for your own. I know that has been the solution for most peoples problems out here. The equipment they provide is subpar.

The rep with CC said it's fiber optic internet service. I assume it's the same thing you are talking about. Which router are you using? With Comcast, you can easily go on their website to find out the compatible routers but it doesn't look like CC has that on their website. Would a rep from CC be able to tell me which routers are compatible?
