We've always had the standard green lizards and some geckos outside. We are now overrun with these purplish burgundy lizards that move even faster than the greens. What kind of lizards are these and where did they could me from all of a sudden? They seem new to this area.

I think I've found my own answer -- thanks to google. I hate these ugly new lizards. I want my green ones back. The Green Anole, Your Resident Backyard Lizard, Is Being Pushed Out By Its Uglier Cousin

I read about those, too. We used to have a lot of the green ones (they can also turn brown). But then they were edged out by new brown ones (they can change their patterns, but still stay brown/burgandy). The new brown ones reproduce like mad and they move really fast. I can easily catch a green lizard, but have to use trickery to catch one of the brown ones. The brown males like to fight a lot! We joked they are Ronnie lizards from the Jersey Shore.

Somebody needs to start one of those ecological programs to save or repopulate the green lizards. That sounds funny, but it's kind of true. The swarm of brown lizards could impact the balance of things.

I've been using glue traps for the geckos. Maybe they will work for these lizards too.

What are you doing to the geckos you glue?

My geckos have disappeared too since these Caribbean lizards have moved in. I dont think I want to glue them -- I just like to discourage them and encourage the green ones to come back. Maybe certain plants etc.

There was a Cuban anole in an upstairs bathroom. Never could catch him .
We still have lots of green anoles, Mediterranean geckos, and Texas spiny lizards.

There is literally no logical reason to do this

What!!! Why would anyone glue lizards? They are beneficial, they eat insects, grasshoppers, spiders etc. Plus, glue traps are cruel, I don't care what you trap with them.
