Snow almost completely covered my lawn overnight in Sugar Land. Woke the kids up an hour early and let them play in it. We were able to make a mini snowman.

It was funny to see the few that left cars out on driveways come up with make-shift scrapers. No one owned an actual scraper.

I was in bed, but am close to the windows, and though I did not see them, I could hear the neighborhood kids laughter (joy) outside... warmed my heart as my wife and kids are waiting for me to join them in Spain. They got snow last month where they are at, which is the foothills of the Pyrenees. I sent them a photo this morning, and my kids called to complain sarcastically, of all things, because they only saw it once or twice when they lived here, and in Katy.

My kids were disappointed we had hardly any snow. These are the same kids who used to constantly complain about walking to school in the snow when we lived in Denver. How soon they forget.

I was reading that Houston had 20 inches of snow on Valentine's Day in 1895. Can you imagine was a cluster it would be if that happened now?

It's rare, but it happens

Going back two decades, there have been only five snowfall events in Houston, and only three of those measured more than a trace.

On Dec. 10, 2008, 1.4 inches of snow fell on the city, and on Dec. 4, 2009, an inch fell. Those were the only two events since the 1990's to produce more snow than Friday's storm.

According to records by the Houston-based Weather Research Center, the last snow to hit the city was on Feb. 23, 2010, when a trace of snow fell.
