I am aware of this, as I was a magnet student myself. I just meant that an a statement of fact regarding West U ES.

Remember, everything is not set in stone yet. It's just proposals and rumors at this point.

The good news is that the overly heavily administration level jobs are the first to be cut. Each magnet school has a magnet coordinator, content specialists who mainly study " data", etc... It won't be very many classroom teachers. Some of the most heavily coveted schools with magnet programs have very few spots ope, as most kids are zoned. Kolter is a great example of that. There will still be magnet coordinators, but not at every campus.

The proposal is talking about 44% of cuts from the central office. I can tell you that HISD wastes so much money on useless jobs right there.

The good schools will be fine. Kids that are already in those magnets will be fine. They won't be forced to leave. The people who should be worried are those currently in the lottery for next year. There will still be magnet schools that are funded by the district. It will even be expanded into more quadrants, if that passes.

I think this is more likely what will happen. Areas like OF have good elementray schools, but not great middle and high schools. There are other areas not far but in different school districts where you can more house for your money as well as have good schools all the way through. Specific high ranking schools are what drive up the price of some neighborhoods. And if they loose that, why should people move or stay there? I can afford a nice house in the Heights for example, but not pay for a nice house AND pay for private school.

Its ridiculous HISD has to pay the state money to operate public schools instead of getting funds. Dumbing down of texas is ramping up

Are Aldine ISD, Alief ISD, or some of the surrounding ISDs going to be affected too? Is there a way for consolidation to stave off some of the bleeding?

I am also aware Philadelphia charges taxes on people who work in Philadelphia but im not sure HISD can get away with that (taxing non-HISD residents who work in HISD) ...

In Cy-Fair ISD? You mean Jersey Village High School?

We definitely do not need more taxes and more bureaucracy... We need to be able to keep our funds locally and use them wisely. Many public schools already fund teachers aides and other programs with PTA funds and donations. PTA play a huge part in this by hosting fundraisers.

you attend where you live. simple as that. You play sports where you live.

Why stay in South Park and then HISD has to spend more money to bus students to Westside from there and then when the South Park school fails, you spend more money trying to figure out why when the major is reason is lack of community stability.

You have more pride when you represent the area you actually conduct business in.

The only way that will work is if charter schools were also abolished. I don't see that happening.

Another joke as some charter schools are hidden behind organizations that have no business educating kids and those employees make more than employees of legit districts

DO NOT FORGET: Meeting at Frank Black Middle School in Oak Forest tonight at 5 - 6:30pm, about FTE and Magnet overhaul proposals. Rhonda Skillern Jones will be there. Come armed with your questions. This is about your kid’s education. Middle school, high school will be affected by all of these changes. It is important to let our voices be heard.

Frank Black Middle School
1575 Chantilly Ln, Houston, TX 77018

I know some other meetings will be going on by representatives and Board members at other schools on different days, I just don't have that information right now. But this one is tonight.
