About that time, I drove my car to a repair shop by there and walked back to work along Westpark and saw a trail of blood leading back to the bushes around an apartment complex. And then, there's also the incident of bullet holes in the windows of the building I worked in.

Perhaps things are better now, but it's still not an area I would want to hang around in after dark. Plus, I heard so many stories of Asian people living south of Harwin being preyed upon, especially after Katrina. I don't mean to turn the conversation toward bashing people of any ethnicity ... but, still, we have to acknowlege problems in our society before we can fix them.
Katrina must be a code word for AA from NO.

I agree. Regardless of how much basis in fact exists for the sins of a few, I think that some people continue to obsess on it too much. It's neither fair nor healthy to mistreat decent people (who are in the majority) for the bad behavior of a few.

I mentioned Katrina because a number of Chinese friends had mentioned that they thought crime in "New Chinatown" had gotten worse at that time.

I know four families there and all enjoy it. They all go to private school. Since your kids will also go private, I would definitely consider it. It is a very nice community once you are inside.

Most of Royal Oaks is in the 100 or 500 year flood plain. Even if it didn't flood in Harvey, I would expect it to within the next 10 years.

Royal Oaks has a golf course. Golf courses are often built in flood plains. The question is, are the house slabs below the 100-year FP elevation or not. I would not buy a house with a slab elevation that is lower than the 100 year FP elevation.

For those of you who do wonder what the zoned public schools are...
For high school people are randomly assigned to Elsik, Hastings, or Taylor, regardless of where they are in Alief ISD, and the magnet schools are Kerr and Alief Early College HS https://www.aliefisd.net/Page/5212

Since Alief ISD and HISD are separate districts, your kids would be considered out of district if they wish to apply for HISD magnet schools.
