I live in North Houston and work even farther out, so I rarely drive into town
This week I had to go OTC

I left NRG to go home around 2:30pm, holy cow ... I couldn’t believe how much traffic was on all the highways at that time
Same thing happened today. I left Katy around 8:30pm and drove into town and then North on I-45 .... insane number of cars on the highway.
I’m comparing it to the cities where I lived before ... St. Louis and Kansas City.

I don’t understand how anybody can be against giving people another option and reduce the number of cars on our highways.

Because despite dense traffic clogged highways, Houstonians love their cars and WANT to drive.

There is a weird misconception that public transportation:
1) should make a profit. Even though our highways certainly do not.
2) is a covert attack on your car. Like, when they build that train, Obama will come take away your car.

I'm for expanding the metro rail throughout the entire city, as it would severely cut down on traffic on the freeways. The potential issue is that most people inside the loop would benefit, leaving those who live outside Beltway 8 and 610 with no choice but to use their cars. If the metro rail served the entire city inside and outside the loop and Beltway, I'd definitely use it, but because I'm so used to driving, it would take a brief adjustment period.

Imagine for a moment,
that we had a rail system .... let's say, identical to our highway system with a loop, beltway and Grand Parkway and ways to get to downtown
That you could travel around Houston on rail from Sugar Land to Pearland to Baytown To Humble to Tomball To Katy ..... on and on and on

You don't see how that would reduce traffic in Houston?

It needs not go everywhere, but most everything in the inner core of the city should at least have a bus line that goes straight to the rail system without additional transfers.

The only people against it are the people who have not traveled to cities that have it. I would take the train everyday if they expanded it. However, I am doubtful this will happen in my lifetime.
