So you could move to the City, buy an higher priced house, and apply to, but not get accepted into, the top three schools in the Houston area because they are magnet schools, and then be forced to either attend a significantly lower ranked school, or pay for private school.......or you could buy a lower priced home zoned to the 4th, 6th or 7th ranked schools in the Houston area and be assured that your child will attend.

Yes those are the options.

Yes those are the options.

Careful, you may drown in the sea of mediocrity out in the suburbs, if the poster is to be believed.

There are 3 Top 10 schools in Katy ISD alone, and if you look at the top 20 as a whole, multiple entries from KISD, FBISD, Clear Creek, Cyfair, and Conroe ISDs.

The crux of what you are implying, that HISD is somehow a paragon among a sea of "meh", just isn't true.
You're preaching to the "Anyone who chooses to live in the suburbs is a yokel" choir.

The point is that there are good schools in the suburbs and good schools in HISD so the talking point of "move to the suburb for the schools" doesn't hold up and the suburbs should justify themselves via other means whether that be cheaper houses or demographics or whatever.

O wow, the suburbs should "justify" themselves according to a contributor's criteria. Even though they have outstanding schools compared to HISD. Just ask residents of Cinco Ranch or The Woodlands. I live inside the loop and without fail every family in my neighborhood (Timbergrove) which has kids entering middle school abandons HISD and moves to the 'burbs. Like it or not it's a fact of life.

Not every family in Timbergrove abandons HISD at middle school. We didn't, neither did anyone else we know. Lots of kids going to Frank Black, then Heights or Waltrip. Others going to Hamilton, Lanier, Pin Oak, etc.

I just moved from Oak Forest and not a single family I know left the area for middle school. Most sent their kids to Black with some going to Hogg and Lanier.
