Well, I saw the Scorpions at the Summit in '92 and it was a packed house, worthy of Joel Osteen's crowds there now.

Default Much better than today...

Visiting Houston as a teenager in the late 70's, and moving here in the early 80's, Houston did have a very good scene with some small, but good venues, and clubs. The main ones where now famous bands went to were Cardi's, The Agora and more pop was Numbers, plus numerous clubs around the city. The rock scene was at least present, not so sure anymore, I don't go clubbing, but it seems most rock bands now go to the bigger commercial/named venues. The only people I saw with the hair and clothes were the groupies. Most people just went as they were.

Default I think the earlier ones were better

I graduated High School in 1984 and to me the hair metal era would be like from 1983-1987 .
I remember going to see Twisted sister, Ratt, Motley Crue, Def Lepard , Quiet Riot

That's interesting that you would say that. Those bands you listed are definitely what comes to mind when someone mentions hair metal. However did you guys ever have a "name" for those late 80s/very early 90s groups like Warrant/Slaughter,etc?At least here in SA amongst some circles people called the late 80s rock music "Valiant" to distinguish it from bands like Crue,Ratt,Dokken,Scorps, etc.

The well known Hair Bands that made it to MTV were just as popular in Houston as they were anywhere else in America. However, we did not have much of a local metal "scene" with lots of clubs and local bands trying to make it big and get noticed. The first thing any aspiring hair band did in the 80's was move to LA. There was a much smaller metal scene going on in New York at that time, but LA was the epicenter. The only regional hair metal bands I can even recall would be Lilian Axe (New Orleans), Dangerous Toys (Austin) and Baton Rouge (Louisiana). I can't recall any hair metal bands that came from Houston who ever got a record deal.
