Default Cleveland, Texas

Hi everyone,

This morning I mistakenly moved this post to the Cleveland, Ohio, forum because I did not know that katektt was talking about a town near Houston.

Can anyone help her out now that I have it back where it belongs?

Default Cleveland Texas

Since nobody has responded and from what I know of Cleveland, my first thought is where in the world would someone from England hear or know about Cleveland Texas. If you are responding to a TV hawker, please don't buy. If they offer you a free trip, please don't take it. If you are coming to the states to view property, make your own arrangements period. Cleveland is about 40+ miles (you will need to covert to kil) from Houston. It for the most part is in a wooded area and near the Piney Woods section of Texas. As we now pass through on our trips back to Houston, we stay on the freeway and look and see that about the only thing going is Wal-Mart.
Property taxes are high in Texas because the state does not have a Income Tax. The largest part of the tax rate is the School Tax. Having looked around a little, taxes run somewhere between $2.60 to $3.20 per hundred of assessed value. Homeowners get a reduction in the assessed value of about $15,000 on school taxes (more if you are 65 yoa). Some county appraisal districts are quite active in keeping up on market value to determine assessed value.
Crime is like crime everwhere. You need to make sure you work with your neighbors.
Even the not so good scool districts usually have an honors program where children who are above average are usually segregated, study advanced courses and pushed harder to excel.
People in Texas are usually very friendly. I don't believe you have to consider that a concern. There is, of course, the one or two.
Come visit first and make no commitments.

I just stumbled across this in a realestate search, but I live in Countrywood right off Plum Grove, I have lived here for 16 years and my parents have lived here for over 30, crime rate is low, subdivision is nice, there are 3 area schools Cleveland, Splendora and Tarkington as well as a private school..my husband and I commute to Houston for work, the area off 59 is a new development where Wal-mart is, the are also several other business's as well that are down the main street, as far as jobs there are the schools, hospital, several logging and concrete companies but Conroe is about 24 miles and it has probably a better list of job oppurtunities, all in all it is very peaceful out here my kids ride their bikes up and down the roads, we have block bbq's, easter egg hunts, etc. but I agree you should come visit first before making that huge of a decision..
