Coffeegroundz is a really cool place to hang out in midtown...lotsa smart techie single peeps there. The manager is awesome and they have art shows and do all kindsa community events, live music, etc. I'd never heard of a coffee shop/bar till I moved here and found Coffeegroundz.

Oh yeah, and when you ask about lounges or places for 20 somethings to hang out, all you're gonna get are places that serve alchohol and you have to be 21 to get in...no big city has very much in the way of cool places for 18-21ers.

Yes! I owe you rep for this.

I don't know what Inner Loopers want us to say...something like "the area in Houston known as Clear Lake that is not Houston but has a Houston address?"

Well, what people are pointing to is exactly what houstoner said. The loop itself is large enough to be a city in itself, and in most cities it would be. It's not that Clear Lake isn't part of Houston. The point is Clear Lake is not surrounded by a core part of Houston, nor is it a direct extension of Houston's core. It's not that anyone is trying to be maliciously divisive, it's more that the concept of a place like Clear Lake is divisive in itself, yet somehow the Clear Lakers contradictorily want to be part of the urban mess that's on our hands, when it suits them.

This is something I've observed as well.

Why do they wish to be included in something they so distain? They don't like the loopers or the area, yet are miffed and offended when excluded in the geographic definitions of Houston or Core Houston. They take pride in living in the clean outer relms, and are horrified at the dirt and sacrifice Loopers contend with, speaking of them while looking down their noses. Just the thing they claim ITL residents do of the burbers......

The major difference is, Loopers are more than happy not to be included in "their areas."

I'm not a Looper, but I find this back and forth amusing. Probably because I'm somewhere in the middle.

If you live in the suburbs, you live in the suburbs. There's no denying it.

SUre i go out to party's and events within Houston but if i was living in Alief, or on 249 or Greenspoint,or even Clear Lake would I say i live in Houston just because my home address says Houston on it?

and another thing..

I'm not a big fan of being the suburban touristy types. And its absolutely annoying when I actually have something to be doing in Houston and I am looking forward to seeing urban Houstonians as a change of scenery, I end up seeing the same soccer moms I saw in Sugarland.

You seriously need to get over yourself and grow up a little. Your scoffing of suburban soccer moms who want to enjoy Houston as much as you do is obnoxious. Live and let live.

To be honest, you can replace 'Clear Lake' with almost any super-neighborhood in Houston that isn't considered trendy or inner-city ghetto by the enlightened ones. Being a 'part of Houston' and being a 'part of the urban mess' aren't necessarily the same things. Due to the suburban nature of this 600 sq mile city, I'd venture to say they aren't usually the same things!

I still fail to see what's so annoying about people saying they live 'in Houston' even when they're spread all over Houston proper. We can have our hood identities and still be cohesive as Houstonians. Besides the gang mentality previously mentioned, what I do find annoying is people making incorrect borders for super-neighborhoods to claim they live in a better area than they really do. This happens over the entire metro.

As long as your postal address reads HOUSTON, TX 77*** you live in Houston.

And what's the big deal? It's confusing to tell people you live in Webster, Klein, New Caney, Stafford, or whatever because a lot of people don't know where that is.. It's easier to say Houston.
