Hermann park was my first choice but i read a lot of google apartment reviews that talked about break-ins and car thefts like at the plaza apartments. Hence I got the perception that the area around hermann park was pretty heavily crime infested

FWIW, I haven't had any problems in two years. Break-ins happen in the suburbs too. If you're looking for some crime-free utopia, you're probably going to have to buy your own personal island and that's not going to be had for 800 a month either.

Just saying.

I agree. It's just that I live and work in a small college town now. So the idea of crime as an everyday affair takes some getting used to

Try renting a house in westwood subdivision 77025, very close to med center, many nurses and doctors catch the bus from this neighbourhood to go to med center

Default Hearthwood condos?

Does anybody have an opinion about this condo complex. The rent seems reasonable. Posted pics online look nice and it is pretty close to med. center
Is it a safe-ish area?

Don't move there if you're looking for something safe!! Rent is cheap and it's very spacious but you're looking into being around an area where there is A LOT of activity AND noise. I talked to one of the employees that worked there not too long ago told me about break-ins, someone getting robbed, etc. One night I remember there were a bunch of cops surrounding one of the buildings and I was told that they were looking for someone who had just robbed a convenient store. My hallway always smelled like marijuana. one of the tenants near me had constant activity in their apartment and I wasn't surprised to see a coke baggie lying around here and there. I don't know how i lived there for two years and i am GLAD i moved out there!!!!

Default Student Housing, Meyer oaks, bray's bayou

I realized that I qualify to stay in UTHSC's grad student apartments on 7900 Cambridge st and 1885 el paseo st. I am leaning towards the cambridge st. since the rent is cheaper. They are definitely walkable to the med center and apparently have 24 hr. security. Should I not ocnsider them for some reason?

I also found this apartment called meyeroaks that has glowing reviews on google which seem to be genuine. It is located on braeswood blvd. which a couple of people have told me is decently safe.

Also there is supposed to be this bray's bayou bike path that goes on for miles. Is it a sensible idea to count on it for commuting to work by bike?

You can definitely bike along the bayou to get to work. I see people riding there all the time.
