Liechtenstein is 62 square miles. Houston's around 600. I've walked from Austria to Switzerland through Liechtenstein. I wouldn't even dream of walking from Baytown to Katy through Houston.

To the OP, you've got a ton of choices. All the 'burbs are pretty much what you're looking for. I recommend you go to har.com and find the price to match your specifications.

We live in Cypress which is in the far nortwestern tip of Houston. Commuting distance to Downtown Houston is about 28 miles (but drive time is about 1 hour +). Hwy 290 is always congested, but I love the Cypress area - the trees. We're not too far from Lone Star College - Cy-Fair (literally it's in bikeriding distance from my home). I also like my home very much (on a man-made lake which actually looks kind of ugly but I enjoy it). Schools in Cy-Fair ISD are better than HISD, but I don't think the district is as top-notch as it once was.

Pearland is the fastest growing city in Texas, very well laid out and planned. It is in the south of Houston.

Sugar Land is considered as the 3rd best place to live in the entire United States. Very good schools as well

Looking for the outskirts of Houston, eh? This place rambles on forever. If you find them, let me know.

Sugar Land has great schools...especially the First Colony area. It took us a year here to figure that out.
