Well for all you beer nerds out there the day has come. DR8 has hit shelves across Texas. I've got my 2 sixers from Spec's in Sugar Land chillin'. Specs in midtown sold out in 15 mins. Any other stories about this 'tickle me elmo' of beers?

For those clueless...

Just got word Spec's Cinco Ranch has one case left and I'm on my way over to pick up my two six-packs.

Me <--- beer geek.

I'm also a beer nerd, but don't think St. Arnolds is anything to write home about. Scotch Ale is pretty tough stuff, though. Had some bad experiences underestimating that type of brew.

The Divine 8 is mostly hype.

However I also got myself a few 6ers and it is a good brew- the midtown folks obviously aren't that smart as they seemed to spend most of their time looking for somewhere to park rather than stopping round the corner and going in multiple times (like I did) and getting a whole bunch of the stuff.

I'll be swapping it with other beer cognoscenti if and when they have something as interesting and rare.

Sort of reminds me of the hype around Westvleteren the so called 'best beer in the world'. Sure it's good but it 'aint that good.

The big HEB's will get cases in overnight, so I'll be buying some more in the morning. I like it, but I especially like my friends begging me for it.

Yeah, it's "eh, they've only won over 25 international awards sine the 90's."

So what. St Arnolds doesn't hit everyone's taste buds right. But I'd definitely be open to trying some of this new local barley wine if someone wants to donate one for me. However Scotch Ale in general just isn't my thing. NW and NE domestic brews FTW. I think they have the best beer-making ingredients there, wine country to BC and up the northeast US. No doubt influenced by the climate/elevation. Mexican and the light side of European for "lawn mower types." St Arnolds, Abita, Two Rows, Real Ale, keep trying. (Honorable metion to Real Ale.)
