Ah the wonders of the internet, it's amazing how information (correct and incorrect) can be spread and influence people.

I have had the flu and since then have gotten the flu shots. I've gotten "sick" from the flu shot and it was nothing like actually having the flu. I got this seasonal flu shot and had mild aches and a mild headache for one day. For me, the pros greatly outweigh the cons. I will be getting the swine flu shot.

That's nonsense that vaccines cause cancer, another internet spread falsehood. There is more exposure to carcinogens than 20-30 years ago and hospitals aren't filled with children with cancer.

I don't think I am buying this theory. I had all the recommended vaccines as a kid (many years ago) and they've only added a few since then - hep, meningitis, and maybe one other) and all my former schoolmates didn't have any higher incidence. I think it is like another poster said - kids are exposed to so many more carcinigens now -- Houston's air quality, products made overseas with substances we don't use in products here, foods (junk food nation), and so on, medications expectant parents may be taking or have taken in their lifetime and so on. So many people are on one kind of medication or another at all ages.

I don't agree or disagree and vaccines causing cancer. I personally believe that everything we eat, drink, do, noadays slowly kills us in some form or fashion.

But I also don't think you have been to some children's hospital lately. Why do you think MD Anderson has their own children's hospital?? Or why Texas Children's Hospital has their own Cancer Center? I have personally treated infants who were born with cancer (leukemia). And I think that in today's world there are a lot more carcinogens in food, in the plastic bottles we drink our Evian water from, etc. that contribute to our current less-than-desirable health statuses.

Actually, a lot of the developed world has seen the life expectancy's to continue to rise. USA's life expectancy has plateaued and slightly decreased because of bad eating habits and lack of physical activity. The fact that the world average life expectancy has increased, despite of the processed food, pollutions, and carcinogens is a sign of how our resilient and adaptable our bodies are. I am positive it would be more beneficial if we didn't have those health factors and life expectancy would be greater.

A big reason why there are more cases of cancers, in children and the general population, is because of greater advancements in cancer detection and diagnosis. MD Anderson is a world renowned cancer center and has expanded to meet the growing amount of patients that come there from around the country and the world.

Interesting. They still recommend to get the seasonal flu vaccine. It may be that they believe the seriousness of the swine flu has been overblown and that the vaccine itself is safe but not necessary.

Yes...they still recommend getting the regular flu shot and in fact, we both received it from them that day.

Bingo.

Even back in Dec. '07 when I had a touch of the flu for the week, it turns out the vaccine being dished out was no help because the flu that came around that year was a totally different strain anyway!

Of course, I don't care much for people in general and make it a priority not to hang in crowds, so I think I'll manage. Oh, I also don't work rotating 12s like that time running myself ragged walking onto ships or watching shipdocks while (off)loading chemical tankers full of Asians or Euros that have been living in close quarters for nine months at a time...yeah, that's got to be healthy.

Also, there was a swine strain in '76 that most who were around back then should have immunity to. Gotta' figure out how to get the grandparents to get this factoid.

Overblown junk...
