We're doing some preliminary legwork before accepting employment in the food service industry in Houston. The job would be on Alliant Drive, which I believe is on the NE side. We're looking at the possibility of buying a home, but want acreage for 2 or 3 horses and water for a recreational boat. Are we dreaming here or is this possible in Houston and near where the job would be? We're in our 30s, no kids, not wanting too much of a commute (job starts at 4am, and we wouldn't want much more than 30mins) and aren't huge city people, we'd prefer country. Any help from those who know the area concerning neighborhoods to search for a home that meets our two above criteria would be so much appreciated!

Mapquest says that is NE of town, near the airport. Kingwood, rural properties near there in Humble and New Caney would work. All within 30 minutes. There is Lake Houston in Kingwood, but I have no clue what boating is like on it.

Thank you for your help! We may rent to start with and our budget for renting would probably be around 1000-1200 per month. Budget for buying a house around 200K.
