You're going to need Spanish to get along, you're going to need Mandarin to get ahead.

But currently, other than the service industry, I don't ever see Spanish as a requirement.

The list should just mention 10 Texas cities since almost all of our cities are doing better than anywhere else in this country.

They havent had problems making friends here. There is a Thai temple on 75 and Greenville and they go to functions every weekend there. However when we encounter people speaking Thai outside of the Temple, they are usually from Laos, not Thailand.

Houston never makes ANY of these lists!

Even lists that just compare things across 30 different cities will leave out the 4th largest city in the country!!!

Two things:

1) Houston makes almost all of these lists even if they arent always #1 on them.

2) This list doesnt have anything to do with population.

This list has everything to do with population. It is all about % of population and not gross population. If McAllen adds 10% in new employment that would mean Houston would need to add nearly 400,000 new jobs to make the list. Think Houston is doing that any time soon? No way

Huh? Filipino can speak English AND their native language of Tagalog, a lot of the times even Chinese too along with other native dialects (over 170 in all). They have one of the highest levels of education out of all Asian countries. Filipino have the 2nd highest high school graduation rate in the US, & 47.9% over the age 25 have a bachelors degree or more. The national average is 29%.

Not quite sure what the stats are for Mexicans & other Hispanics in America, but I know its probably very low, much lower than the 29% national average.

This isn't a knock on any race in particular, its just the facts. There's no excuse for it either, because Philippines is a 3rd world country which once spoke nothing but Spanish. Mexico is also more modernized & upper-middle income...supposedly.

Not exactly what ur point is and how it is relevent to the topic. Just because a place requires you to speak a language (ie English in the Philippines) does not mean they are not allowed to or can't speak any other languages.

As for graduation rates, I am again lost, what does any of this have to do with anything in this tread? Or are you just knocking Hispanics? Hell my wife is Guatemalan and she speaks fluent in Spanish (obviosly), English, and German, not to mention she understands/speaks SOME portugese, Italian and french. She also had the highest grades in her English classes at Texas a & m, but none of that is relevant to the point of this thread either

What I mean is that this list isnt simply listing cities by populations.
