I was just wondering what the procedure is to get my name legally changed in Texas. Where do I start?

Call a lawyer, its a legal procedure (unless you have gotten married). You will have to go to District Court in the county you live in.

Default Name change Minor

Is there any way that I can change my daughters name (minor) myself? Has anyone tried this or has anyone changed their child's name? with or without a lawyer.

Typically, a person must petition a court in their state for a name change, and the court can then decide whether or not to grant it.
Lots of info here:

Once the legal name change is complete, the job is only half done. A person must then inform a number of important organizations and agencies of the name change in order to make it official. That is, a person must update his or her new name with the Social Security Agency, DMV, Passport Agency, etc., not to mention his or her employer, banks, insurance providers and other professional and personal affiliations. This process can be tedious as it requires the filing of several forms and updating ones name with numerous organizations.

Some child I know did not feel good in his name. He hired a lawyer. The lawyer made him wait until he was 13 and write a paper on why he wanted to change his name. We then petitioned the court. The court notified the father that the mother was changing the child's name. We then went to the courthouse and grabbed a judge who was known to us at the water fountain. He asked the child if he was changing his name to avoid arrest or child support payments, did the child grasp the trouble for the office ladies at school? They were going to have to go through all of the records to change the name. The name changer needs to keep the documentation handy as it is needed for most legal stuff. Passports, etc.
Do not get a high dollar oil and gas lawyer from a BIG name firm to do this. Nobody knows how. Get somebody fresh out of school who has the time to do this.
Do not know what the fee would be. Our friend charged the kid $100 just because they all thought he should have skin in the game.

If the other parent is living most likely they will have to say it's OK first...in writing..
