Hello everyone.

in 2 weeks I 'm gonna spend "an evening with Larry Hagman" in Lufkin, TX and I thought since I fly to Houston, why not stay 3 or 4 more days and explore the area? I have been to Houston in 1997, I went to Astroworld and to NASA. I heard Six Flags' gone and if NASA hasn't add much new stuff (been to Cape Canaveral too) I don't have to go there again.

What would you recommend to visit instead? I don't have to stay in Houston though. I just book me a hotel for a night and then I vagabond to the next location, maybe Galveston? I am not familiar with the Gulf Coast, so I would be more than glad if you recommend something, let's say 2 hours around Houston? I'm gonna have a rental car so I'm free to go.

I would be interested in nature, beaches, animals, all kind of famous things that a tourist has to do in the area but I don't like museums.

Thanks for your time and help

Well if you have kids .... schlitterbahn in Galveston, Space Center Houston, Kemah Boardwalk. If not, then you could go to Galveston, rent some bikes -- stroll the strand, tour historical homes. In Houston, we have a nice zoo. Got it that museums are out for you. If you like to shop, you can go to the Galleria. Outdoor outlet mall out on hwy. 290 in Cypress. Some nice quirky restaurants -- try Baba Yega for lunch on a pretty day - ask for a table on the veranda.

In Galveston you could stay at the Tremont in the historic strand area -- if you want to be on the beach, try San Luis. Moody Gardens - try their hotel.

Check out Hermann Park, Discovery Green, the Houston Zoo, the Houston Arboretum, you might actually like the Houston Museum of Natural Science, despite your disliking of museums, because of cool things like Cockrell Butterfly center, Baker Planetarium, the IMAX, and just the natural science displays the have like dinasours and fossils(Paleontology Hall), and see some mummies, and some animals as well in display. Might even like a tour of the port, which is free(just google Sam Houston Boat Tour)

Why would you apologize for something you loathe so much? The only thing you need to apologize for is your still being here.

If you like nature, you could walk or rent a bike along the bayous? Or do the same in one of the big parks.

what in the world are you talking about? again, "haters" is the only way you houstonians explain away how abnormally boring this city/region is.
when did I say I loathe city? I'd like to apologize in advance for mindless houston boosters
