Well, living in the Austin area where Whole Foods was founded, I'd say the best part about the place is being able to get a good beer and drink it whilst shopping for the way overpriced produce & meats.

Although it is a good alternative for specialty items.

One of my sons and his family have patronized the flagship store in downtown Austin since the '90s.

There is a new one in nearby north Austin that we need to check out - the wife likes to have a few organic items on hand whenever said son (a vegan hippie) comes up for a visit.

It is a very different & sometimes entertaining shoppin' experience. Hope y'all enjoy it (and make the hippie founders richer).

Do read up on WF, before wasting your $$ there...they are a mini Walmart in disguise, hostile takeovers, food imported from China & not very good at practicing what they preach! Earth Fare & Fresh Market are much, much better...isn't there a market kinda store opening on 72 in Madison next to Academy?
Now when you tell me Trader Joe's is coming I'll bring out the banners & trumpets!

If you like shopping at natural markets and health food stores then Whole Foods is great. I personally like Whole Foods because I can get lots of vegan and vegetarian items conveniently there, and not everything is overpriced as people say. For example, I purchased some Kale there for $2.50 a bunch, and at Safeway it was $2.99. Plus the Safeway price was for regular kale and Whole Foods was for organic kale. I also like buying my bulk items there - rice, various types of beans, flour for bread, as well as nuts and seeds. I also refill my 3 gallon water containers there. At 39 cents a gallon for reverse osmosis or distilled water, that's way cheaper than buying bottled water. I'm sure meat items are expensive, as is cheese, but those are things I wouldn't buy anywhere however if I had to buy it I'd get it from Whole Foods because I know that they do have some standards for humane farming, and I care about that.

Whole Foods has a new store in Detroit, MI. They have been very responsible community partners, planned the store with local input, hired Detroiters to work there, had local artists create several murals and in many ways made this store "work" in Detroit. Believe it or not they have lower prices so it's a place everyone can buy food, not just the elite.

Not to be unkind, but this post reveals a great lack of knowledge of WF, and perhaps specialty markets in general.
I suspect that you have never been to WF, or you are being a 'reverse snob'. Trader Joe's is good for their unique offerings but you could not live out of one like one could WF.

Besides you can't compare the four stores you bring into this post. None of the others have the restaurant options like WF, and their brasserie is fantastic. (so too, the sushi bar, and pizza bar) And a full service bakery that could make it in Paris. (with gelato to die for)

But what is more important is that people have choices. I just don't understand a post like this, walmart, really?
