I was really targeting my comment toward the homeowner population that has invested in either Tivos or other cablecard equipment for their television viewing/recording. I, for instance, own two HDHomerun Prime devices that give me access to a total of six tuners that I can stream to any device (Xbox One, Xbox 360, tablet, phone, computer) in my home. I don't have any additional overhead cost per viewing location and only have the additional expense of the two cablecards on a monthly basis. Swapping to Google TV would be cost prohibitive and disruptive for me given my current setup and its ease and low cost of use. I'm sure others will find the same when comparing their setups.

OK. To be fair, you were responding to someone who has satellite. And with satellite there are similar ways to stream to devices and not have to pay additional viewing location costs. All of this is irrelevant to how far Google Fiber has made it in the HSV area.

Comcast does not charge directly for CableCards any more. If you use your own equipment you still have to pay for a connection to it less a discount for using your own equipment. That is for each piece of user owned equipment you use you pay $7.45.

Service To Additional TV Includes Cablecard = $9.95
Customer Owned Equipment - Adjustment = -$2.50
Net Cost for Customer Owned Equipment = $7.45

BTW, Google Fiber uses IPTV for their service. They are exempt from the FCC rules that are imposed on cable companies that allow user owned equipment by the use of CableCards.

Internet Protocol television (IPTV)
