Anyone know anything about that man (40-50ish) who walks around Monrovia carrying a garbage bag? Recently, I've been seeing him most every day. He walks on Nance, Mount Zion and Pettus Roads--maybe other places too.

Looks like someone gave him a yellow reflective vest to wear a few weeks ago and he's pretty much in it all the time. That's probably good.

What's his story? Is he harmless?

I don't know his story, but he collects cans and assumably whatever else he can find in the trash and alongside the road. He walks quite a bit on Capshaw as well. I noticed the vest about a month or two ago. I'm really glad he got that, especially with the time change. Those roads are incredibly dark. I have thought about offering him a ride, but it seems like he ekes out what he can by collecting and a ride wouldn't help that. I did give him my dinner one night.

Interesting fellow indeed. The roads are really dangerous around there. I see him on Capshaw daily.

Always kinda wonder where he is going. He's always in a hurry when I see him.

His name is Eddie Golladay. WAAY TV just did a story on him the other night. You can find the video ("The Can Man") on their web site: Mediacenter - WAAYTV.com- Huntsville, Alabama Television - News Weather Sports The youth group at the Monrovia Church of Christ is spearheading an effort to set up can collection points for him. The Facebook page is here: Cans For Eddie | Facebook

I think it's wonderful people have taken an interest and are actually reaching out to this guy.

While I don't know him, I know that he lives in a $200,000+ beautiful brick home and large lot off Nance Road, north of Capshaw (I'm guessing he lives with his parents or a relative) so he is not "needy".

I also know that he must have some issues that ARE a bit frightening to me and anyone who may not know him. He talks/yells loudly, is often unkempt and is so intense on his quest that he just exudes a demeanor that is frankly a little scary.

Having said that, there is nothing wrong with his self chosen "career" and quest to make pocket money and it's wonderful that he is cleaning up our roadways and is recycling.

I do fear that he will tangle with a car one day and that would be terrible and I hope he is harmless as all this attention tends to indicate.

Default Guy who walks the roads with a trash bag

This guy is always walking up and down Nance/Capshaw and some of the side roads of the Monrovia area.

If you've seen him you know who I'm talking about.

Yeah, I've seen him.

I have only heard rumors. I don't know anything as fact.

See him 2 - 3 times/week when I take my kids to school. I worry about him getting hit by a car since he walks right on the shoulder.
