I've had loose dogs around my property worrying my wild critters, and I've seen dogs that never should be loose. I am 100% behind this lawsuit, to the point that I would be thrown off any jury:

https://www.waff.com/2022/12/22/esta...29-defendants/

I have a concealed carry permit, but when I carry it is less about defense against people than an animal with rabies or a dog pack.

Frankly, this is outrageous: "Beard was an employee of the Alabama Department of Public Health and was prohibited from carrying any type of weapon."

If I were an employee and knew of this I would quit without notice.

I got a post deleted on another forum because I noted that the aggressive dogs are OFTEN owned by those dealing drugs. How much does it take for people to lift their heads out of the sand?

Those named in the suit need to face justice.

When I lived near Auburn, AL for a few years in the late 1990s, I did a lot of bike riding along the rural unpaved back roads of east central AL. It was safer than riding the busier paved roads which usually had no shoulder and fast moving cars. The rural dirt roads were generally good for bike riding, except for the occasional dog on the loose that liked to give chase to a passing bicycle rider (which were rare enough to be entertaining for the dog).

My defense against dogs that would give chase was to carry a stadium air horn can with compressed air inside. Dogs have really good hearing senses, and one thing they hate is loud noises like loud horns. The air horn can never failed to make one or more dogs back off of chasing me. It was better than carrying pepper spray, which required good aim to be effective - hard to aim when riding a bike and watching dogs approaching from behind on the chase.

If I worked at a job in rural AL, I would carry an air horn can and pepper spray for dog defense. Or maybe a taser gun? I can see why government agencies don't want their employees to carry a firearm on the job, but I am certain an air horn and pepper spray would not be an issue. Not sure if taser guns need a permit.

I almost want to say that those who did not perform their duties even after having been sent out there multiple times, should probably face some sort of charges. I am not typically on board for officers to be charged with crimes because usually it stems from a very tense situation where quick decisions need to be made and their lives are in danger. This is not one of those situations though. This is a situation where they were completely negligent and did not follow through even after repeated requests. Even after all of this, the neighbors are still who had to take care of the situation themselves. That is just absolutely absurd.

I have no idea what type of dogs were involved but I would be willing to bet it was pit bulls or pit bull mixes. As harry stated, those involved in illegal drug activity often have these dogs. You can spot a drug dealers house a lot of times by the pit bulls in the fenced in back yard. I am actually surprised the neighbors didn't solve this problem a lot sooner than they did.

The county might as well go ahead and offer a substantial settlement to her estate. I don't think they want to go to court and everything be presented to a jury. If I was a member of the estate, I would probably reject any settlement offer they made unless it was an almost obscene one. They need to pay the price for their negligence on this one to set an example.
