Am fairly new to the area ... 10 months.

Every Christmas, we (family) have this tradition of visiting Christmas pageants at various churches... usually musicals. Where I came from (San Jose, CA), the Christmas church pageant was very elaborate ... 100 member church choir, orchestra playing in the background, various well-crafted musical performances etc.

Are there Christmas church pageants here in HSV/Madison area?
Are there some re-enactments here (i.e. Bethlehem)?
What areas have elaborate lighting displays?

Please be specific about the church name.
On the lighting displays - can u specify the community name/city?

Don't worry if u don't have much details on time/place.

I can google the actual dates/place.
Thanks!

I believe there are tons of what you want. Just watch in the paper and the church announcements. I know our church in Madison is doing a walk to Bethlehem and I know that the churches all do wonderful musicals.

Don't be afraid to use this website - city's "official" calendar of events (for lack of better word)
Huntsville/Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau

In the past years I've seen many such events advertised here. It is the responsibility of the event organizer to put the word out there (submit his event to the website) - hopefully they did a good job at that this year too.

There is a church on Whitesburg (in S. Huntsville) that does a live Nativity Scene that is really beautiful. I remember they were even out in the pouring rain! I think the church is just called something like Whitesburg Baptist Church? Anyone?

Calvary Assembly, on Alabama 20 near Decatur, always does an elaborate production.

Historic neighborhoods in both Huntsville and Decatur have holiday home tours.

Are there any other pageants? Besides beauty and Christmas?

You might be interested in The Living Christmas Tree at First Baptist Church on Governor's Drive in Huntsville. Elaborate light display coordinated to the music (in the shape of a Christmas Tree). Very large choir--125-150 people I'd guess and an orchestra with pipe organ and piano to accompany the choir. Some years they have a professional soloist to mix things up a bit. They do several performances over a long weekend in December including a children's performance on Sunday afternoon.

The First Baptist is unofficially known as the Eggbeater Jesus church because the bottom part of the mural of Jesus at the front enterance of the church looks like an eggbeater.

Yep, Jesus on an Eggbeater is it. Funky mural but overall a nice church inside and they do a great job with The Living Christmas Tree. I try to go most years. They have information about it on their website and the tickets have always been free.
