Is there a limit on how long a building permit can be open? Does anyone have any insight on this?

When we stayed at Homewood Suites in 07 they had started building the building behind Homewood Suiltes. The major construction was finally finished this year but the landscaping still isn't complete - there big construction dumpsters are still full.

The concept is you buy a unit, and have your business downstairs and your house upstairs. A few of the units have sold - but the balance are unfinished.

I understand that the builders have had lots of hoops to jump through due to the Business downstairs/Home upstairs model - but how long can they drag out construction on this place? I imagine the home owners in the very upscale homes that have had to look at that mess are sick of the situation.

I remember that construction too. I too stayed at the Homewood Suites many times when I was in HSV on business back in I guess 07, (and later for a house hunting trip.)

One has to wonder if things there in that Providence retail area are shaky. The hamburger and ice cream place just closed in a pristine outdoor fountain plaza setting that seems so inviting. What the heck is going on over there?

Mellow Mushroom and KaLou's Corner both seem to be doing quite well. One complaint I have about the area is that the traffic situation is ill conceived. Crossing Providence Main on foot is a risky undertaking. They should route vehicle traffic around the business area and make the central area foot traffic only, at least after a certain hour maybe.
