The Huntsville Times front page of todays paper has an article concerning Amy Bishop and assets. I have not been able to find the article at Al.com but it does list the front cover pdf.

http://www.al.com/huntsvilletimes/pageone/friday.pdf
The Huntsville Times - Huntsville, Alabama Newspaper - al.com

Article headline -
"Prof and husband paid $190,000 cash for home now valued at $230,600"

The articles discusses how Amy Bishop had to swear to a affidavit to the fact that she has no assets, but yet the article reports her house is paid off.

Further it discusses her UAH contract ends in May (if she is not fired bfore May) assumption she is still receiving her salary of $66,000 a ear.

It’s reported the court has appointed her a Huntsville court attorney.

Question-
Why are the taxpayers of Huntsville having to pay for her attorney when
she has a house paid off and a current salary? How many law obeying people in Huntsville have a house paid?

Why must the shooting victims and the citizens of Huntsville be victimized again by this act?
Attorney Mark McDaniel explained on one of the local stations that even if someone had "some" assets, they have to be significant in a capital murder case as the costs of what he called a "typical" case runs $500,000-$600,000...and I bet this case won't be typical.

As such, he explained, even if they have a house worth a quarter million, it won't pay for her defense and as such, because of that pesky ol' Constitution in which everyone is guaranteed an adequate defense, she can be declared indigent and the cost of her defense must be picked up by the state.

One drawback to her then is that your attorney is appointed, not chosen by her, and there is always the suspicion, valid or not, that court appointed attorneys aren't of the highest caliber.

UAH shooting suspect Amy Bishop tells court she's broke but paid for Huntsville home | Breaking News from The Huntsville Times - al.com

In the article, it reports

"A defense against capital murder costs at least $50,000, one prominent local defense attorney said Thursday.'

-and-

"Currently, the house has an appraised value of $230,600"

$230k is a good starting fund for a defense, guess her family better start selling off other items so they can pay for their own defense and put a stop to Huntsville citizens and her shooting victims paying for her defense with tax dollars.

It also sounds as if there will be money in the future coming in from her invention. Some talk of it going to victim's families.

The DA in Norfolk County Massachusetts has opened an inquest into the 1986 shooting, and the Newton police are reviewing the pipe bomb case that Bishop was a suspect in.

Mark Roberts, a sergeant with the Huntsville police department, said that the inquest is "a little late now".

It's rare that someone goes from a trial in one state to stand trial in another, but this is what could happen.
