When you get around to selecting your "locks" for your exterior doors......................Consider selecting "DOUBLE CYLINDER" dead Bolt types that require being unlocked from either side WITH A KEY.......and have these locks "KEYED ALIKE".

Just a couple suggestions that I found to be very helpful and time saving. (When I built my last home ,several years ago)
Thanks for the great tips but hopefully I won't need all that security stuff where I'll be in NID. I'm trying to get away from a place like that. I don't even open the garage door when working on my cars so people can't see what's in there. Hopefully I'll only have moose and bears to worry about.

The place is beginning to look really great. Congratulations!

A word about the warm weather we are having, oldafretired....It's only temporary. Don't forget the warm socks, coats, earmuffs and such. I smelled autumn in the air tonight.

Great progress! Are you hoping to get it closed in before winter?

Looking good oldafretired.

How much insulation are you planning on having installed?

Should be a lot of insulation. If you look closely, those are 2"x6" boards on the external walls so more insulation can fit in.

Yes, I thought that looked like 2x6 in the original photos. It should be a nice, cozy home. I envy you since I'm about 3 years, 1124 days to be exact, from retiring.

How did you go about choosing a floor plan? In looking at existing homes for sale I see a lot of nice designs (but probably more that just make me scratch my head and wonder what they were thinking) but don't know how one goes about looking for floor plan if you want to build from scratch.

Jim

3 years will go fast and you'll be retired before you know it. I can't believe I've been retired for 13 years now. Will be able to get social security in a couple of years. LOL

The builder has put up a bunch of homes in the Post Falls/CDA area. My realtor showed me one that was just about to be put on the market in Rathdrum and the builder showed me one of his rentals in Post Falls. I liked the one in Post Falls so I just picked that one and he modified it some to fit my needs like the extra large 30'x40' garage, wood decks, sliding doors for the bathrooms, Kuma wood stove, and stuff like that.
