Has anyone on this forum gone on Highway 11 north out of Pendleton, Oregon to the 12 and then the 195 toward CDA instead of the I-84 to the Tri-Cities and the 395 north to the I-90? Just wondering how that route is. Thanks.

Many times - it's a nice drive. The roads are good and it's very scenic. You won't be going quite as fast but you'll probably enjoy it more.

Thanks! I think I'll go that way since I'm tired of the other way.

Hey oldafretired, why not 95 up instead of 195? I haven't driven much of 95 before besides the north part when I drove around the Lake and I've never been on 195. I'm just curious.

Good question. I forgot about that route so I looked it up and it seems to take quite a bit longer (maybe an hour?) than going on the I-84 to 395 route. Going to Lewiston to get to the 95 is kind of far. The 195 route is supposed to take only about 15 min or so longer.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Gotcha about the longer time, I was wondering if 95 was in worse shape than 195 or something. Have a great trip up.

We've done it all (almost). Now we just need for 93 through NV to become a freeway!

In August we went from Spokane down 195 to Lewiston to 95 on the way back to SoCal. We had business (buying doors and windows!) in Spokane, anyway. 195 is a really nice ride, through the Palouse, with rolling hills. Farming country and just prairie as far as the eye can see. We've also gone 395 to Pendleton and up 11 to 12 to Walla Walla. Then we've either gone west to Kennewick and up, or east to Lewiston. It depends on what you're in the mood for. If you're hauling stuff, I'd go by way of Kennewick. If you just want to be in Idaho as soon as possible , go up 95. Spend the night in Riggins and watch the deer come down to the river at dawn. I love Riggins! Or stop in White Bird and check out the historical markers about the Indian Wars battle in 1877. 95 is a beautiful drive (but with two steep grades). Here's a picture we took coming down the White Bird grade in August, watching a storm roll in. We'd never seen anything like it! 20 minutes later the storm was on top of us...

The 195 is nicer in the spring when it is green in the Palouse. I agree with CFF if you are hauling heavy stay on the main route. I thought 93 was a freeway, heck I do triple digits on it!

Thanks, CFF. That's an incredible photo! And Riggins sounds like a great place to visit.

And elousv, I'm just driving a car so no trailer to worry about.
