We will be buying/building our retirement house around the Lewiston area, but not "in" city limits. I've found some nice parcels just north of Orofino. We are presently living in Menifee, CA taking care of aging mom's and watching this state implode. We come from 22 acres in the mountains so we are not new to snow country and we miss it dearly. Our Son now lives in NE Oregon, and the Wallowa area is awesome, but that state is just a bit to "blue" for us, and the Lewiston area is close enough to them for easy visits. We've been wrestling with the idea's of; build from scratch, buy a knocker-downer, buy and remodel, or try to find something "near" perfect? Our plans are to grow, raise, hunt most of our food as we used to. It's starting to look like either way we go is going to cost about the same in the long run.....LOL.

My only advice is to make sure that you can get a contractor and construction workers. Building in idaho is going full speed ahead and it is possible that all the construction workers have moved to where the work is.
