I used to live just around the corner from this. it never spoke "Unity" to me, more like Urban Blight. Now they want to restore it to show their Anger and The Hatred
If they want to depict reality why don't they show all of the Illegals in the WIC lines and ERs? Show them giving birth with countless tax payers throwing money at them. Maybe a nice hit and run would fit on that mural nicely? How about a few unemployed Carpenters looking at a house being built by Illegals working for a fraction they used to? Maybe add a nice bit showing people wanting to come legally waiting in line at the front door while the criminals kick in the back door, storm in and grab everything not glued down?
If you want to show the reality of anger and hate then show WHY it's there.
Chavez was just as much against illegal immigration as anyone here in the forum.

How long has this been there?
I lived in that very area for 30 years (minus the few years we lived in Glendale) and don't remember seeing those murals.
I just looked at the map again, trying to figure out where these actually are... they are across the street from the high school (the one I graduated from actually!). Trevor Browne High School is almost all hispanic now, so I can well understand why they would want to paint their "art" right where they did.
Just glad I never had the "pleasure" of seeing this.

Funny that you mention that. If you move the street view north where the mural's background is blue there is a hole in the fence where some one crashed into it. Those block walls are like magnets to cars in that area

You forgot one: How about a pink house that is uses as a drop house?
The son of Mexican immigrants said he's seen family members arrested and deported, though few people understand the impact of the everyday lives of many residents.
arrested and deported - well boo hoo hoo - guess they were ILLEGAL huh? Let them go BACK to Mexico and live their "everyday lives" THERE.
whats the problem with having a red white and blue mural with a bunch of civil rights figures?
thats what it is currently.
and how is this illi immig related.
there are ideas for making it more "in your face", but right now it isnt.
much ado about nothing.
great post.
from what you can see in the google map shot this is nothing more than a mural on a concrete block wall. with images of the american flag and people. art is supposed to make you think. art should evoke thoughts. if you want a panel on the wall to depict what you think, go down and paint a panel. otherwise it is up to an artist to interpret what they will.

IMO it brings down the aesthetics of the neighborhood, brings a flavor of plight.
Currently, Its whitewashed. lets leave it that way, as they have shown they cannot repaint it without bringing their hatred into it.
If it where not Illegal Immigration related i highly doubt they would have a need to show "the anger, the hatred, and people suffering." that is being fueled by SB1070
