Be it the bad economy or stricter enforcement, there are fewer illegal immigrants in the US, with numbers dropping to 2005 figures.

Number of illegal immigrants in US now declining

Number of illegal immigrants in US now declining | General Headlines | Comcast.net (http://www.comcast.net/articles/news-general/20100901/US.Illegal.Immigration/ - broken link)

WASHINGTON — The number of illegal immigrants living in the U.S. has dropped for the first time in two decades — decreasing by 8 percent as the sour economy dried up jobs and increased enforcement made it harder to sneak across the border with Mexico, a new study finds.

Not bad news but not good news either. I'd like that to read 80%.

Ok first of all as the pro-illegal side claims we really don't know the actual number of illegals in this country. So 8% of an unknown number one must assume that the 8% is also a fantacy number as well.
If it is true I am glad. With strict enforcement nationwide it could have been much higher. Even the 80% Angry wishes for.
As long as Obama and other elected reps make excuses for illegals and dangle the hope of an amnesty we will never make solid gains.

The unemployment rate for illegal immigrants in March 2009 was 10.4 percent — higher than that of U.S.-born workers or legal immigrants, who had unemployment of 9.2 percent and 9.1 percent, respectively
The UE rate for illegals should be 100% - nothing LESS.

So even though we HAVE no "definitive" number for how many illegals are in this country, we can however say their presence has declined by 8%? Back to "2005 levels of 12 million"?

Oh please - tell it to the fairies.............

Thank you! I am always amused at these clairvoyant estimates. If the Feds don’t know who they are or where they are, how on earth can a determination be made of a decline in their presence, or an increase in their unemployment? Miss Cleo?

Interesting, isn’t it? They don’t ask immigration status (that would be racist); yet, they know the number currently here, the number employed/unemployed, the percentage that left, and their tax contributions. Unadulterated BS!

Pew Hispanic Center (whom is often cited by Anti-illegals when it suits them) came out with the numbers.

it is based on census data and other numbers. its reliable.
