Examine Mexico's Real Intent Before Reforming Immigration | Culture Wars Right Side News (http://www.rightsidenews.com/2010101611889/life-and-science/culture-wars/examine-mexicos-real-intent-before-reforming-immigration.html - broken link)
In 2001, the pro-immigration New California Media reported that Mexico "continues to mourn the loss of half of its territory to the U.S. in the 19th Century."
If we count the amount of time anyone from Mexico actually lived in any territory now claimed by the United States it is about the same as a camera shutter.
Many Mexican-American are patriotic. But many newcomers and their U.S.-born children can be mobilized by Mexico to vote according to Mexico's interests. U.S.-born Juan Hernandez, then a member of current Mexico President Vicente Fox's cabinet, has stated: "We are betting that the Mexican-American population in the United States...will think Mexico first."
This is a very disturbing truth. Yet, all opponents of illegal immigration are demonized.

A lot of that has to do with Vicente Fox getting the laws on dual citizenship changed.
Before Mexico didn't allow dual citizenship. It used to require that at age 18, a choice was made - those who wanted the USA dollars would of course go with USA citizenship and give up their Mexican citizenship (and some actually wanted truly to be American) but now they can have USA citizenship for the money and government benefits but pretend to be patriotic Mexicans by keeping that one too.
Non-Mexican US citizens of course are not allowed to seek dual citizenship with Mexico because Mexico safeguards it's jobs and property for it's own people. This creates a very large and growing population that maintains it's ties with Mexico but can take any job, any government handout, vote and everything else in the USA.
We are an immigrant nation. Thats what made us special.
Everyone migrated from somewhere else including what you refer to as native indians (they didn't just sprout up out of the ground like corn) and we aren't the only nation who has had an immigrant population. Today our citizens far outnumber our immigrant population. Therefore, we are a nation of Americans now. Every country while taking in LEGAL immigrants has laws against illegal immigration. Deal with it.
Some migrated to unoccupied land while some migrated to occupied land with the use of force. We are the only nation that has an almost exclusively immigrant population. With the exception of former slaves, everyone entered or descended from those who entered.
It is also important to keep in mind that before 1875, there was no immigration law in this country and up until 1924 anyone could show up at our doorstep and be granted citizenship. It wasn't until 1924 that limits on immigration from certain places in the world began. From that point, it was about money if you wanted to be a citizen from those places which is a perversion of the true american dream.
If there was an Ellis Island type situation where Mexicans could show up and be granted citizenship if they were capable of work, then we wouldn't have a problem. The reality is that there is so much paperwork and lines are so long that it requires thousands of dollars and years of waiting to come over. The poor simply cannot afford that so many Mexicans come over the only possible way and work their butts off to provide for their families.
Amnesty will be granted if this nation is anything it once claimed to be.
and how dare the descendent of an immigrant speak of over immigration or some sort of exclusive "Americanism" that current citizens possess.

Being a descendant of an immigrant does not make YOU an immigrant. If you were born here you are a citizen, not an immigrant.
Regardless of why we started to have immigration laws back in 1924 they are still in place today and must be abided by. No, the reason that we can't allow any and all Mexicans to come here at will is because we have quotas for legal immigration that suit the best interests of this country and quotas from different ethnic groups to be able to retain our identity and culture while having a diverse "minority" population. If we allow Mexicans or any other national/ethnic group to overwhelm us in numbers it would change the face of this country and wouldn't be fair to other immigrants wanting to come here.
There are more Mexicans and other potential immigrants that want to come here than we can accomodate with resources and jobs. We must control our population growth also. We don't need millions and millions of unskilled and uneducated immigrants from anywhere for numerous reasons that have been repeated in here over and over.
How dare anyone tell us that just because we might be a descendant of a LEGAL immigrant that we must accept millions of illegal immigrants into our country today or unlimited legal immigration. No country can do that without destroying itself. Why don't they stay in their own countries and fix them? We're full up!
Agreed. I am confused as to why he claims we are a "nation of immigrants" even though the majority of Americans are native born. I was born here, hence I am a NATIVE AMERICAN! How can I be an immigrant if I was born here?
