Last year, the government amended the Caribbean country's constitution to deny citizenship to children born in the Dominican Republic to foreign parents.
Adames said government officials have been applying the change retroactively to people of Haitian descent who already held citizenship.

Where are the La Raza groups now? Why aren't they protesting this? Somehow they never protest anything when it involves Haitians being deported.

Exactly! It's always about their group. I have said it often and I repeat it again if these were millions of Chinese illegals for example, we would not hear a peep of defense for them by La Raza and most Hispanic citizens in general.

The shoes on the other foot: its the Dominicans who are doing things against illegal aliens AND NON Hispanics who became DomRep citizens. But if the USA did those SAME things AGAINST just illegal aliens an anchor babys, Latinos where includin Dominicans WOULD scream.

Double standard much?

It is a double standard - just like when the hispanics of Miami allow Haitian boat people to be rounded up and don't so much blink an eye. It seems they want to keep their own hispanic cultures "pure".

Wasn't there someone else in history who wanted to keep their race/culture "pure"?

As I have often said, I have no problem with "natural" change but there is nothing natural about an illegal invasion.

Yes, it’s interesting that they welcome Cubans, yet lack compassion for the Haitians who often drown trying to reach our shores. Could racism be a factor? Hmmm. . . .

I’m not surprised by the Dominican Republic treatment of Haitians. After all, most Haitians are black. While a large percentage of DR citizens are also black, some apparently believe the Spanish language negates their African (Negroid) ancestry.

I will never forget the conversation I had with a woman from the DR. She told me she is often “mistaken” for being black. Mind you, she didn’t say African-American, she said black. After I regained my composure from laughing, I told her I was sorry to burst her bubble, but she IS black. Then, she told me she isn’t black, she’s Hispanic. After another good laugh, I asked if Hispanic is a race. She didn’t answer my question. Rather, she repeated, “I’m Hispanic!” I then proceeded to explain the difference between a native language and ancestry. Needless to say, she didn’t like it.

The Dominican Denial Dilemma. Hundreds of years now, they've had this problem with their blackness.

Very interesting. Thanks!

Initially, I was somewhat taken aback, because I was looking at a woman who was clearly black, who dared to tell me she wasn’t. While I had to laugh at her, inside I wanted to cry. How sad to feel such disdain for one’s ancestry.
